The festival boasts a big line up of well-known poets, including Andrew Burke, Roland Leach, Kevin Gillam, Vivienne Glance, Helen Hagemann, Janet Jackson, Peter Jeffery, Shane McCauley, Scott-Patrick Mitchell (2009 PressPress winner), Annie Otness, Graham Nunn (Qld), Rachael Petridis (Varuna Award winner), Glen Phillips, Maureen Sexton and Annamaria Weldon. WA SPRING POETRY FESTIVAL 2009: Launch Event, 28th August
As soon-to-be or recently published poets, Graham Nunn (QLD), Scott-Patrick Mitchell, Gary Di Piazzi, Vivienne Glance, & Helen Hagemann will be reading at the launch. Special mentions by invited speakers, incl. Roland Leach will introduce each poet and talk about their latest successes & how WA poets are reaching further than their own shores for publication.

Voicebox: Thursday 3rd September features guest Rachael Petridis (2009 Varuna Longlines Award Poet) followed by a showcase of OOTA poets and open mic,$5/$3, 7 pm, La Tropicana Café, 177 High Street, Fremantle. Visit Out of the Asylum Writers Group

Launch 'The Unhaunting' by ANDREW TAYLOR

You are all hereby invited to the launch of Andrew Taylor's latest collection, THE UNHAUNTING, published by SALT Publishing, to be launched by Dennis Haskell at PLANET BOOKS, Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley, 6.30pm Thursday 10th September.

This is Taylor's first major collection since his Collected Poems (SALT) came out a few years ago and I for one look forward to reading it with great interest.

It is also good to see SALT still struggling on and producing quality books. We need all the poetry publishers we can get, right!

Call for haiku, short work

Part of Overload Poetry Festival 2009 [Australia]:

Hi everyone,

The 8th Overload Poetry Festival (4-13 September 2009) seeks submissions of short poetry for public display on the scrolling text tickers of the west-facing wall in Federation Square, corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets.

... Fed Square will let us feed poems up to these digital scrolling text screens over 10 days. This is one of the busiest intersections in Melbourne, a great opportunity to take your poetry to the people.

Send us haiku, one-line poems, short poems (up to 5 lines), short prose poems (up to 50 words) to submissions @ overloadpoetry.org by 31 July 2009. Payment: the joy of being read by hundreds of thousands of people.

In submitting, please be mindful of the medium and its public nature. Push the boundaries tastefully...
